What is conception in pregnancy?

Conception is the fundamental step in pregnancy where a sperm successfully fertilizes an egg. This usually takes place in the fallopian tube. Following fertilization, the resulting embryo travels down to the uterus and implants itself into the uterine lining. This implantation is when the pregnancy is established.
