A dislocation of a hip replacement is uncommon but considered a medical emergency when it occurs. The symptoms are usually sudden and easy to recognize. You may feel intense, sharp pain in your hip or groin, often accompanied by a noticeable “popping” sound or sensation from the joint. It becomes difficult or impossible to move the leg or bear any weight on it. In many cases, the affected leg may appear shorter than the other or be visibly rotated either inward or outward.

If you experience these signs, do not attempt to move or straighten the leg on your own. Seek immediate medical attention by calling for help or going to the nearest emergency room. Prompt treatment is essential to avoid further damage.
